History of NortonLifeLock

The NortonLifeLock company was founded in 1982 by Gary Hendrix. The initial name of the organization was Symantec, whose primary focus was Artificial Intelligence (AI) projects along with the database program. In 1984 Symantec had not any product because the advanced natural language and database system they had developed in two years could not be transmitted to PC from DEC minicomputers. Moreover, in the same year, the company got acquired by C&E Software, a smaller software company. Now, both companies were combined and named Symantec. 

After that, in 1990, Symantec got merged with Peter Norton Computer. In 1991 Norton’s team and Rod turner launched the Norton Antivirus. By the year 1993, about 82% of Symantec’s total revenue was from the Norton Products Groups. 

Additionally, the former VP of IBM, John W. Thomson, was the CEO of Symantec. He served from 1999 to 2009. In 2009 the company released a list of the ‘100 dirtiest websites’ containing the most malware. This list was made by the research and detection of the Norton Safe Web. In 2014 Michael Brown was interim CEO, interim president, and interim executive. Plus, Mr. Brown has been serving in Symantec (NortonLifeLock) as Interim president and chief executive since 2014. 

To protect the connected car from zero-day attacks, in 2016, this company introduced a product to carmakers. In the same year, Greg Clark took the position of CEO of the company. In 2019, Vincent Pilette was appointed as the CFO of the company.
